Trademarks are distinctive signs that differentiate products or services in the market.
What can be registered as trademark?
Pursuant to the provisions of the Argentine Trademark and Designations Law, words, drawings, emblems, monograms, engravings, stamps, seals, images, bands, color combinations applied in a specific place on goods or packaging, wrappings, containers, combinations of letters and numbers, letters and numbers by their special drawing, advertising slogans and reliefs with distinctive capacity, may be registered as trademarks. Likewise, the Law establishes that any other sign with distinctive capacity may be registered as a trademark.

The period of protection of a registered trademark is ten (10) years from the date the registration is granted. The trademark may be renewed for successive periods of ten (10) years indefinitely, provided that it has been used within the five (5) years prior to each expiration.
No, trademarks are territorial rights and therefore must be registered in each country where they are intended to be used.
This will depend on the circumstances of each procedure. A trademark application that has received no oppositions or observations from the Office (straightforward procedure) takes approximately 14 to 16 months to be registered.
