INPI Brazil Increases IP Official Fees

In May 2025, the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) approved an update to its official fee schedule — the first adjustment since 2012. The new fees will come into effect on August 7, 2025, except for certain services that will have specific effective dates.

Key Features of the Update

  • An average increase of 24.1%, reflecting the accumulated inflation since 2012.
  • For certain services related to trademark and patent registrations in Brazil, the increase may reach up to 48%.
  • A 50% discount will continue to apply for:
    • Individuals,
    • Micro and small enterprises,
    • Individual microentrepreneurs,
    • Scientific, technological, and innovation institutions,
    • Non-profit organizations,
    • Public entities (when acting on their own behalf).
  • Additionally, up to 100% fee reductions are available for individuals in vulnerable situations or with disabilities.
  • The update also includes a reorganization of service codes: new codes were introduced, others removed, and naming conventions standardized, aiming to improve the system’s operational efficiency.
