Changes to the INPI notification system for trademark procedures
Through Resolution No. 63/2026, published in the Official Bulletin on February 24, 2026, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) introduced modifications to the notification system applicable to trademark proceedings in Argentina.
The measure establishes that certain communications and administrative acts will be notified through the user’s electronic account.
This new regime entered into force on March 1, 2026 and forms part of a broader process of modernization of the industrial property system in Argentina, aimed at streamlining administrative procedures.
Mandatory electronic notifications in trademark proceedings
The resolution formally implements the electronic notification system through the user’s electronic account for proceedings conducted before the Trademark’s Office of the INPI.
As from its entry into force, various procedural acts will be notified exclusively by electronic means through the user’s electronic account.
These include:
- administrative actions issued by the Office;
- procedural transfers;
- interlocutory decisions;
- decisions issued in reconsideration appeals;
- decisions issued in hierarchical appeals;
- claims of illegitimacy, when applicable.
Publication in the Trademark Bulletin for final decisions
Although many communications will now be carried out electronically, the regulation maintains the traditional system for final decisions.
In particular, final decisions issued by the Trademarks Office will continue to be notified through their publication in the Trademarks Bulletin.
This includes, among others:
- decisions on trademark applications;
- final decisions in opposition proceedings;
- decisions related to the maintenance or closure of oppositions.
Procedural deadlines will begin to run from the day following the electronic notification or the publication in the Trademark Bulletin, as applicable. The new regulation also eliminates the 30-day suspension period previously established under INPI Resolution No. P-123/2019.
Ongoing modernization of trademark procedures in Argentina
INPI has progressively incorporated digital tools into the trademark registration and administration system in Argentina in the last years.
This new resolution further strengthens the ongoing modernization of trademark procedures and reinforces the use of electronic systems within administrative proceedings.
