Through Resolution No. 75/2026, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) introduced a comprehensive update of its fee structure. The main novelty is the creation of the Industrial Property Fee Unit (UMAPI), a reference unit used to express INPI official fees.
What is the UMAPI and what is its value?
The UMAPI is introduced with the aim of providing greater predictability and financial sustainability to the INPI.
According to the Resolution, its initial value is set as one hundredth (1/100) of the cost of filing a new trademark application (up to 20 items in the specification).
| Concept | Value in Argentine Pesos (ARS) | Reference Value in US Dollars (USD)* |
|---|---|---|
| Initial UMAPI value | $360.00 | 0.28* |
How will the UMAPI be updated?
As from May 2026, the value of the UMAPI will be adjusted on a monthly basis according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by INDEC.
In other words, the system becomes inflation-indexed, resulting in a continuous update of official fees.
Key dates:
- April 1, 2026: The new official fee schedule established by the Resolution enters into force.
- May 1, 2026: The new system becomes fully operational. The value of the UMAPI—and therefore the official fees—will be automatically adjusted.
Current trademark and patent costs (April 2026)
Below are the official fees for some of the most common trademark and patent procedures:

4. Patent Application

5. Substantive Examination of a Patent

Note: USD values are provided for reference purposes only and were calculated based on an approximate official exchange rate of ARS 1,300/USD. These values may vary at the time of quotation.
Costs as from May 2026
For reference purposes, Argentina’s CPI during the first months of 2026 stands at approximately 2.9% monthly.
In this context, official fees expressed in UMAPI may increase monthly in line with inflation, leading to significant cumulative adjustments throughout the year.
Implications for trademark strategy and planning
In this context, it is advisable to consider filing any pending procedures with upcoming deadlines in the short term, in order to secure current official fees before the implementation of the monthly adjustment system.
The introduction of the UMAPI means that official fees will no longer remain fixed, but will instead be periodically adjusted, which may significantly impact the overall cost of procedures.
